Monthly opportunity for writers/ performers, focusing on the process and development.
Kasaysayan
unfolding of stories
Kasaysayan is a Cebuano word
(a dialect from the Philippines)
for unfolding and sharing of stories.
Monthly/ Regular Event curated by Divergent Theatre Collective
We invite and feature writers/ theatre makers/ performers who would like the opportunity to develop their work (new or recent and haven’t been performed or developed). There will be one featured writer/ theatremaker/ performer each month.
We strongly encourage writers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, BIPOC and first nations people, who would like to further develop ‘bilingual’ writing and storytelling.
FOCUS:
We encourage Contemporary New Work. DTC is interested in the collaborator's process, approach to work at hand & personal development.
At the end of the month's development, collaborators/ creators present documentation and a 5 Minute video of the work in development.
OUR FIRST FEATURED CREATIVE FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON. WATCH THIS SPACE.

IT TASTES LIKE HOME
Book/ Lyrics by Lorna Wells
Music by Eudora Yutong Qiao
Directed by Roman Berry
The Recipe
Prepare two families,
Mix in two cultures,
Then slowly add three identities,
Spice liberally with two different cuisines
Now mix really well.
Cook in a London oven for two generations. The finished dish should look like ……One Life?
“When I was young, A.M was Dumplings.P.M was Fish and Chips. When I was Older, A.M was plantain, P.M a walnut whip”
‘It Tastes Like Home’, is a musical comedy set in modern day London. It explores a love story between first generation Jamaican Camilla, and Yi of Chinese descent. As their tentative relationship develops, can they balance their two worlds of family, culture and values?
Backed by a soundtrack fused with reggae and Chinese influences, this unique and feel-good multicultural musical explores what ‘home’ looks like when you come from another place, and whether migrants and their children can really ever unite their, culture, passions, and identity with that of the host country they are in…….
In the end is that how we survive?
The food and culture it keeps us alive?
Both when your home is far, far away,
Or when you’re born here, and still feel a ‘way’.
